Our Story
Chill & Surf was born from a simple idea: Weligama deserves a surf school that puts quality above everything else. Founded by Sisira, a man who grew up on the shores of Weligama and learned to read its waves before he could read books, the school was created to share the joy of surfing with visitors from around the world — while giving back to the local community.
Sisira saw that many surf schools in the area were focused on volume and quick profits. He wanted something different. He envisioned a school where every lesson is meaningful, every instructor is genuinely skilled, and every student leaves with real progress and an unforgettable experience.
What makes Chill & Surf truly special is its commitment to developing local talent. Sisira actively identifies young surfers from the Weligama community who show natural ability and dedication. These talented kids are trained under the guidance of the school's most experienced instructors, learning not just advanced surfing but also professional teaching methods, ocean safety, and customer service. Several of today's Chill & Surf instructors — including Dulaj, Raki, and Kalu — came through this very program.
This is not just a surf school. It is a community that develops careers, preserves local surf culture, and creates connections between Weligama locals and travelers from every corner of the globe.

Our team is the heart of Chill & Surf. Every instructor is a local Weligama surfer who has grown up on these waves and dedicated their life to sharing the joy of surfing.
Founder
A Weligama local through and through, Sisira built Chill & Surf from the ground up with a vision of quality, community, and authenticity. He oversees every aspect of the school and is personally involved in the instructor development program that trains local talent into professional surf coaches.
His philosophy is simple: never chase money — chase quality, and everything else follows.
Rosi
Head Instructor · 10 Years
Rosi leads the instructor team with a decade of experience surfing and teaching in Weligama. His deep knowledge of local wave conditions, calm teaching style, and ability to connect with students of all backgrounds make him the backbone of Chill & Surf's teaching operation. Rosi sets the standard for lesson quality across the school.
Chuti
Acting Head · 11 Years
The most experienced surfer on the team with over 11 years in the water. Chuti brings unmatched wave knowledge and a mentor's instinct. He oversees lesson quality, helps develop junior instructors, and steps in as head instructor when needed. His experience is invaluable to both students and the team.
Tharaka
Senior Instructor · 9 Years
With 9 years of experience, Tharaka is known for his patience and technical precision. He excels at helping intermediate surfers break through plateaus and develop the skills to ride green waves with confidence.
Navee
Instructor · 4 Years
A rising talent in the Chill & Surf team, Navee brings infectious energy and enthusiasm to every lesson. His upbeat personality and natural teaching ability make him a favorite with students looking for a fun, high-energy session.
Dulaj
Instructor · 2 Years
Dulaj is one of the homegrown success stories of Chill & Surf's talent development program. Identified as a talented young surfer in Weligama, he was mentored by senior instructors and has developed into a capable, confident teacher. Dulaj also speaks Hindi, making him a favorite with Indian visitors.
Raki
Instructor · 2 Years
Another graduate of the Chill & Surf development program, Raki is dedicated and reliable. His consistency and focus on fundamentals make him excellent with beginner students.
Kalu

The newest member of the instructor team, Kalu was trained under the direct guidance of Rosi and Chuti. He brings fresh energy and a genuine love for teaching that is evident in every session.
